So hanging out back in the Twin Cities I’ve decided to host a Meetup called Location Independent Living Group. I figure it’s a good opportunity for people to discuss their thoughts and options related to living a Location Independent Lifestyle. It was relatively lightly attended, like many first time groups are, but it reinforced a bunch of lessons for me concerning people wanting to move their lives in that direction.
What Do You Want Your Life To Look Like?
First things first, you really do need to know what it is that you want, or are hoping to achieve with modifying your lifestyle. Without this you are rudderless. You need to know where you want to go. You need to know what you want to achieve. There are virtually unlimited options that are sitting in front of you for the taking. You need to pick, otherwise you’ll never start to take the steps that are required to make the changes to your life. You’ll blink and months, years, or decades will have just flown by. Take the time to really sit down and figure this out. If you haven’t already read my previous post related to your vision for your life, please read it here.
Be Stubborn About Your Goals, and Flexible About Your Methods
While what your life can look like is virtually unlimited, so too is your means to get there. You need to really focus on and consider what it is you want to do with your time in order to provide the money that you will need in order to live this lifestyle. It truly depends on which quadrant of the Cashflow Quadrant you are currently residing in, and which one you want to make your money in when you are living the lifestyle that matches the vision that you have for your life. I think the best way to approach this is through the lens of what you really want, without getting caught up in the roadblock type of thinking. Engage the Dreamer in your mind prior to letting the Realist or the Critic in. Let the dreamer run free, and then let the Realist figure out how to make it happen.
Remove The Words ‘I Can’t’
Whenever you are looking at doing things make sure to remove the words ‘I Can’t’ from your vocabulary. Why on Earth would you choose to use those words. You have just limited your ability to do something without even giving it a try. And don’t give me some BS obscure crap examples of things that are physically impossible to do, like running a mile in 1 second. The question you need to ask yourself as you work through the process is, do you really want it? Are you looking for a reason that you can make it happen, or are you looking for a reason that it won’t work for you. And that’s what it is. Whatever it is that you want, someone else it probably already doing it. It’s not a matter of it not working, but of it not working for you.
Make A Plan Or Make An Excuse
Would you feel better actually achieving something that you put your mind to, or living in your world where you say you could have done something if you had just chosen to do so? My friend Chuck asked a bunch of us in my Mastermind Group what we could achieve this year if we actually decided to cut through the crap and actually go for it. What could you actually do if you gave yourself permission to really give 2016 your all. Not looking back at the end of the year with any regrets for CHOOSING to not make the most of your life. It sounds simple, but it really is just a choice…and failing to make a choice is a choice. There’s no right or wrong, it’s just a choice. If it’s congruent with the vision that you have for your life then it is probably a good thing for you to pursue.
Embrace The Uncertainty
We’re a quarter of the way through the year now. Are you willing to change, or is the life that you are currently living the same life that you want to live for the rest of your life? Most people say they are unhappy with one or many aspects of their lives. Many/most people are unhappy with their jobs. People stay where they are at though. Fear of the unknown is stronger for them than the unhappiness that they have come to accept as their reality. I used to be that way too, but have gotten much better at embracing the uncertainty. The question when striving to do something new needs to not be ‘what if it doesn’t work’, but needs to be ‘what if it does’.
Let me know how I can help you to start making the changes that you desire in your life. The quickest and easiest way to start taking steps in the right direction is right below here.
Get Connected
As always, I’m going to be spending alot of time in my Facebook Group trying to help people with this in a relatively specific nature. Although I’ll answer some questions in the comments here, I really want the discussions to happen in the Facebook Group. Please sign up for that here and engage in the conversations and start to change your life.
If you want to do some of what we’re doing, you can do it. Please join our Location Independent Living community in our Facebook Group, and let us help you through the journey.
If you are in the Twin Cities area please feel free to come out to our new Location Independent Living Meetup Group meetings here.
