The Return Home…

It’s the end of our time in Scottsdale, and the return home to the cold of Minnesota.  It’s going to be a definite change having to ditch the shorts for awhile, and start wearing coats again.  The weather is actually unseasonably warm in Minnesota, but coming from the warmth of Arizona it’s still going to feel cold.

The rest of our time in Scottsdale was rather uneventful, and rather relaxing.  Just busy with some work stuff while we’re away.  Had to make a run in to a Fedex to overnight docs for a closing that was happening while I was on the road.  The key to having a business that runs while you are away is having great people in place.  Amazing people are the key, and it almost doesn’t matter the cost.  Build the systems and compensate people well, and you’ll gain the freedom that you desire.

Packing Up

I will say one thing about packing up…it’s much easier to do when it’s 70 degrees outside, compared to our pack up to leave Minnesota when it was 10 degrees below. :)

Poor Daisy is trying to figure out what all the commotion is about.  She can tell that something is afoot.

Packing went smoothly, but then we had to deal with the interesting part of it all.  The winterizing of the camper. :(

It only took us an hour sitting in the parking lot after dumping our tanks to figure out what the heck it is that we’re supposed to do in order to properly winterize it.  They glossed over this part at the dealership, so I didn’t have good notes, like I did for the other things.  After struggling with this we now have VERY detailed notes. 😉

Hitting The Road

Heading out our GPS took us through a National Park for about 100 miles before connecting with an Interstate.  I’m glad it took us that way, because the area was absolutely beautiful.  We went through a few small towns, which slowed us down on the 2 lane road, but it was a very smooth drive.  That is, until we see a police car coming our way swerving back and forth between the lanes with it’s flashing lights on.  WTH???  We pull over and stop.  He stops by us and warns us of an oversized load on a truck coming through the area.  Seriously, who gets a yacht delivered through a National Forrest?

I would have assumed that they wouldn’t have been allowed to drive that through a relatively narrow and windy road, but I was wrong.

We stop for the night at a rest area just East of Albuquerque New Mexico.  That worked out just fine, except for being greeted with a harsh reality the next morning.  We got up and found this…

We haven’t even really started heading North and we run in to snow and ice?  Seriously, can we just turn around and go back now???

We’re having to return home now because there are some planned things that need taking care of back in Minnesota.  We’ll continue growing and building our businesses in such a way as to allow us to not have to return on any type of schedule in the future.

One nice thing about returning home is that I’m getting a haircut the day we get back.  It’s as if I haven’t gotten that done in 2 months…  I’m looking a little shaggy.

In all honesty, I wasn’t ready to come home.  The last night that we were in Arizona I didn’t sleep well.  I was a little sad to head home.  I started thinking again about all the miscellaneous crap that needs to get dealt with on a relatively day to day basis.  When you start to feel and experience the freedom of getting away from all of that it’s hard to drop back in to it.  We’ve made good progress to allow us to start to live a more free lifestyle, but we have more work to do.  I truly hope that some of you create the opportunity to feel this kind of freedom.

Next week we get to discuss the unexpected surprise that we had waiting for us upon our return…
