Daisy is very excited to be in Las Vegas…or maybe she’s just her typical slothful self.  Somehow she thinks that my foot makes a good pillow.

She seemed to be a little more energetic once we delivered to her a squeaky hedgehog friend to play with.

So we’re hanging out in Las Vegas for about a week to attend the Firearms Engravers Guild show at the end of the SHOT show.  We got to see many friends and Kelly had the opportunity to spend time with and learn from some of the best engravers in the world.  Even though Kelly only dabbles in firearm engraving, she was able to learn some from the experts in the engraving field and carry it over to some of her other work.

The show was near the North end of the Strip, at the Westgate.  A group of us decided to walk down the Strip to the Carnegie Deli in the Mirage.  I almost got the group to stop on the way and eat somewhere else.  I thought this looked promising…

What could possibly be better than an All you can Eat BBQ or Sushi??? 😉

For some reason they decided against it.

It’s Vegas, but not Vegas

Didn’t really do any Vegasy type of stuff, except for going on a ride on the High Roller.  It was the first time for us on it, and it was pretty awesome.  If any of you want to do it I recommend finding discounts through Groupon or Living Social, or some such since the discount tickets seem readily available.  We went in the evening around 7-8 and there were a total of 6 of us in the car that is capable of carrying  40 people.   Got to see some of the fountain show at the Bellagio too, from the car we were in during out 30 minute tour.  Here’s the view from the top.

The RV park we stayed in was pretty nice.  Loved the facilities except for the WiFi which pretty much sucked.  Over the upcoming weeks you’ll hear more about the pluses and minuses of the various parks we stayed in.  We were only there for 1 week, so we did a fair amount of internet access through my hotspot.  If we were there longer it would have been a pain to not have better internet access than that.  I’ll be doing some research on some options in future posts too.  One additional nice benefit about this park is that Daisy got to meet her first cactus.

While here we had the time and warmth to figure out the issues with our heating.  It’s all working now, although we are actually using our electric space heater because our camper isn’t that big, and the electric is included in our rentals.  Hopefully we have no issues with it on our return trip.  One other thing we learned is to not use the waste hookup as if it is a normal drain in our house.  If you do so your drain pipes are likely to clog, which is what happened to us.  Thankfully we used the Google machine and figured out how to deal with that issue.  What ever did we do before the Google machine???

Hiking with Daisy

One really nice thing about being out and about with no real schedule is that it allows us to get out and walk alot.  Daisy is getting ALOT of walking in.  It’s so much easier to do that without the snow and cold.  With all the extra exercise we’re feeding Daisy extra food so she doesn’t get too skinny.  I know, First World Greyhound Problems…  It’s something to consider if you are traveling with a pet and taking them out and about with you though.

On our last full day in Vegas we decided to go hiking in Red Rock Canyon.  It’s pretty cool there, although after a while you just start to think ‘oh, there’s another rock formation’.  There are lots of hiking trails, but there’s also lots to see without hitting the trails.  Here are some of the shots we got.

And, of course the gratuitous Daisy refusing to pay attention shot…

So now for the great adventures in hiking with Daisy.  We intentionally picked a shorter path, since we had no idea what to expect.  Where does the trail go???  It goes this way.

Daisy seemed to know where she was going, even though we didn’t.  I figured if we lost our way we could always follow the plastic bags with the gifts that Daisy left for the area.  (Side note, really liking these dog poop bags that they had at the RV park for cleaning up after the dog.)  We were having a great hike, heading down the path quite a ways, and then poor Daisy met her match…

She’s a really fast runner, and a good hiker, but not so much of a climber.  Time to head back.

So ends our great Vegas adventure.  Now it’s time to make like a tree and get out of here…
