People in the RV parks look at us funny.  I mean, really funny…and it’s giving us a little bit of a complex.

It could be us being too young…

It could be us having too small of a camper…

It could be us having too big of a dog…

Or it could just be that the three of us are smoking hot!!! 😉  (OK, that’s just Kelly and Daisy)

Actually, Daisy is getting RIDICULOUS amounts of attention.  Everybody loves the Daisy.  We can’t go anywhere without someone asking if she’s a greyhound…which she is.  She’s good looking, and she knows it.  We just had to do something to keep all this attention from going to her head.  So…

Yes, that’s Daisy looking sadly at the other dogs laughing at her…while wearing duct tape booties.

Here’s the scoop, if you are going to bring your dog with you on a trip to a more rocky terrain you NEED to bring with some dog boots for them.  She did fine for a while, but over the weeks it is starting to take it’s toll on her feet and they are starting to get tender.  This is a problem since she needs to get some good walks in each day or she winds up being way too high strung hanging out in the camper while we are out and about.  She comes with us alot, but not all the time.

After not being allowed to play in the reindeer games with the other dogs, because she looked too funny, we broke down and bought her some real dog boots.

Obviously they had to be red because she’s so fast.  Now all the dogs want to be best buds again.

Travel to Quartzsite

We’ve been very fortunate so far with the reduced gas prices.  Almost all of the fill ups have been for under $2.00 per gallon.  We were debating our strategy concerning refilling on this leg of the trip, and decided we could make it to Needles, which looked like the biggest city between Vegas and Quartzsite.  We skipped the town between Vegas and Needles that had gas for about $2.79 and gallon, which was obviously at a premium due to being in the middle of nowhere.  We get to Needles and lo and behold it’s $3.79 per gallon.  SERIOUSLY???  WTF?  Mental note, try to avoid filling up with gas in California at all costs.  Really, how can the gas there be twice the cost of in Vegas?  Obviously, that didn’t go according to plan. :(

BIG ROCKS!!!

And LOTS of RV parks.  It’s pretty much a tiny town that turns huge in the winter.  It is wall to wall RV parks and then a bunch of open air booths with people selling lots of rocks…and some other miscellaneous stuff.  Kelly and I are actually really excited to  try our hands and lapidary, cutting and finishing the rough or slabs of various types of rocks.  This is something that we’re going to work on together once we’ve returned home.  It’ll be really interesting since I don’t know if I have a good eye for that type of thing.  We’ll see.

At our RV park we were invited to their annual luau party.  Most of the people there were regulars, and dressed appropriately.  We didn’t get the memo…obviously.

I was elected to be our table representative in the ‘junk in your trunk’ competition…aka senior twerking.  You had a Kleenex box tied to your butt with 15 little balls in there.  You needed to shake enough to get them out of the box before your opponent.

It wasn’t actually really fair, since I was a good 20 years younger than anyone else in the competition.  With my competitive nature though, I couldn’t take it easy on them.  So in the above picture is my first place prize of an umbrella, won by utilizing my unorthodox jumping up and down technique.  I guess I learned a little bit from Tim Ferriss in the 4-Hour Workweek about knowing the rules and exploiting them.  (BTW…I recommend this book highly if you are looking to spend less of your time on work and more time experiencing life)

The luau was held in the large room that doubled as the library.  For some reason I found it amusing that this was the first book I saw on the bookshelf…especially considering the average age of the people residing at the RV park.

For those of you who are unsure…it’s the big orange book.

On our last night in Quartzsite we decided to brave the thunderstorm, and there was a thunderstorm, to go get some pizza.  We decided, based on price for volume, to get the Goliath size.  I figured it would be big, but WOW.  You know it’s a big pizza when they come out and the pizza is sliced in to 14 pieces…

Needless to say, we had leftovers.

We took our pizza, and the Dark Chocolate wine that Kelly found, and headed off to our next destination… with Daisy feeling much better about herself in her new red boots.
